چکیده

— Various model parameter calculation equations of RF CMOS inductors are compared. The calculation equations are using as variables either Y, Z-parameters or S-parameters. Results are based on on-wafer RF S-parameter measurements of a 3.75 turn spiral inductor fabricated in AMIS 0.7 μm CMOS DM1P n-well technology. Results obtained with calculation equations for a differentially driven inductor topology show differences evaluating the same model parameter, depending on whether Zand S-parameters are used. Thus, care must be taken by the designers when estimating an integrated inductor performance to comprehend the operating environment of the device and to choose the corresponding formulas accordingly. Key-words: RF CMOS inductors, model parameter evaluation, S-parameter measurements.

A 2.4 GHz High Performance CMOS Sub-Harmonic Mixer

In this paper a low power CMOS sub-harmonic mixer based on the Gilbert cell for 2.4 GHz ISM band application is presented, in which the position of the switching and transconductance stages of mixer has been exchanged. A tuning out inductor has been used between the RF and LO switching stages to improve the linearity and noise figure, and also to enhance the conversion gain of the Mixer. The ut...

Analysis and Evaluation of Using a Tuning Inductance on the Performance of Gilbert Cell-Based CMOS Sub-Harmonic Mixer

Abstract: The effect of using a tuning inductance on the performance of a Gilbert cell-based two level transistor CMOS sub-harmonic mixer is investigated. The tuning inductor used between the RF and LO switching stages causes conversion gain enhancement and noise figure improvement. Additionally, it compensates LO distortion due to the phase mismatch of LO signals in the sub-harmonic mixer. The...

Active inductor-based tunable impedance matching network for RF power amplifier application

This paper presents the use of a new structure of active inductor named cascoded flippedactive inductor (CASFAI) in a T-type high-pass tunable output matching network of a class-E RF power amplifier (RFPA) to control the output power and enhance the efficiency. The designed CASFAI behaves as an inductor in the frequency range of 0-6.9 GHz, and has reached to a maximum quality factor of 4406, in...

Design Analysis and Comparative Study of Rf Receiver Front-ends in 0.18-μm Cmos

In this work, design and simulation results of two RF front-ends to be used in direct conversion receiver are presented. The first one uses dual CS differential LNA with folded mixer. The second one uses single-ended LNA with double balanced mixer. Single-ended and fully differential LNA’s provide gains of 16.3 dB and 28.75 dB at 2.4GHz, respectively. Noise Figure of these two LNA’s are 3.34 dB...

A Novel Approach: Square Spiral Inductor for RF Telemetry Application

This paper presents the design of square spiral inductor on FR4 substrate for different number of turns. Various simulations based on the incipient models were done by varying geometric parameters. Here, we vary the number of turns from 5 to 9 and find out their effect on Inductance (L), Quality factor (Q) and Self resonant frequency (SRF). The development of inductors for RF telemetry applicat...
